Fort Negley 360

Fort Negley Exposed

Revised: 29 DEC 2016

1100 Fort Negley Blvd, Nashville, TN 37203

Hidden for decades

At least 50 years of undergrowth has obscured this Nashville treasure.  This 8 acre city park has been draped in a thicket that hid her from view, and invited a massive influx of homeless camps. Thanks to Mayor Megan Barry’s office, this national landmark has new perspectives from all directions. It can now actually be seen from I-65, which appears to have already increased attendance at the Visitor Center.

This American Civil War Fort in Nashville, Tennessee was restored in 2004 with walkways and interpretive signage. Fort Negley Park provides a great view of downtown Nashville and has an impressive visitor center (Tue-Sat). It’s only about 5 minutes from the city center.

This 360º panoramic tour includes the fort’s grounds and visitor center, Fort Casino (Rose Park), General Thomas Command Post (Love Circle), General Woods HQ at the Belmont Mansion and Wood’s outerworks (21st Avenue at Saint Bernard Park). It includes site links to the National Cemetery and other virtual Nashville Civil War sites.

Knob Creek

Lincoln’s Boyhood home on Knob Creek

Take a virtual tour of Abraham Lincoln’s boyhood home at Knob Creek in Larue County Kentucky near Hodgenville. There are two Lincoln historical home sites in Kentucky:

  • (1808-1810) Birthplace: 2995 Lincoln Farm Rd, Hodgenville, KY 42748
  • (1810-1816) Boyhood Home: 7120 Bardstown Rd, Hodgenville, KY 42748

The family left Knob Creek and Kentucky in December 1816 moving to Spencer County, Indiana when Abraham was 8 years old. – NPS

None of the structures are authentic to the Lincoln Family, but you can get a good look at the land as it would have appeared then. The creek trail is a 1.3 mile scenic hike, but has a very steep ascent.

“Knob Creek Farm has been a noncontinuous section of the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park since 2001; prior to that date it was privately owned. From 1811 to 1816, it was the childhood homestead of the future President of the United States Abraham Lincoln, who said it was his “earliest recollection”. The site consists of four buildings, two of which are historical in nature.” more on Wikipedia
