1930’s Historic Aerial Imagery

Aerial Imagery of Civil War sites in Tennessee

Never before published aerial pictures of Tennessee Civil War sites shot by the 105th Observation Squadron of the Tennessee Air National Guard in the 1930’s. This map includes unique imagery of Johnsonville, Tennessee before it was flooded by dam construction on the Tennessee River.

3D Battlefield

Battle of Nashville Defensive Positions in 3D

These are several defensive positions of the Confederate and Union Armies during the Battle of Nashville in 3D. Google Maps imagery was used to visualize the landscape in three dimensions. The terrain should be within 6 feet of the actual surface. Note: the Cumberland River was much lower in 1864 due to the absence of dam’s downstream.

The portions are accurate locations, but the earthworks are of an unknown type, so this is just an approximation.

Fort Negley in 3D

As far as I know, this is the first 3D model built of historic Fort Negley in Nashville, Tennessee. It took about 50 hours to build, and I am still making revisions to it.

The terrain is taken from Google Earth, and is only accurate to plus or minus five feet.
